Vice President, Database Administration

— filed under:

You know it's not the right place to work when there is a VP for everything

Being the opportunist that I am, I subscribed to daily JobStreet.com job alert. Today, This one position really caught my eyes: Vice President, Database Administration.

The job scope:

  • Maintenance and administration of production systems databases
  • Capacity planning for database growth based on business requirements
  • Database optimization and disaster recovery planning

I don't know about the rest of the world, but in all of my previous employment, we call this particular job function as "Database Administrator". For job title with Vice President prefix, it signify someone who is really up the ladder, directly consulting the President on the operational, administrative, and strategic matters that determine sink of swim of the company. I doubt this particular VP even see the President on the weekly basis!

What's next? VP of Cafeteria, VP of Parking Lot, VP of Windows Reinstallation, VP of Anti-Virus, VP of PABX? The President must be one micro-manager!
